When asked about the role of EU in the current East Sea conflict, Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Truong stated that Europe is the cradle of culture and international law, EU members should strongly support the way of solving the East Sea issues peacefully on the basis of respecting international law, the UN convention of the Law of the Sea 1982, relating to baseline, territorial sea, EEZ, continental shelf and legal grounds of islands in the East Sea. EU can help Southeast Asian countries complete the legal system relating to the sea, fostering the involved nations to build up the East Sea as the waters of peace, stability, cooperation and prosperity.
